Working in Perth whilst living in Sanur

My wife and I will be moving to Sanur on 26th January (can't wait). I am looking at doing some work in Perth and this can be flexible for my needs. It will just be to maintain my professional skills and keep me from becoming a total man of leisure - I will only be 50. Regarding my visa the options are: 30 Visa free visit - going to Perth at the end of every month. 30 day paid visa which could then be extended to 60 days. 60 day social visa giving me up tp 180 days but would likely only use for 30-60 at a time. Are any considered better that the other by immigration or will my ability to prove Australian income if needed be enough?

Keep in mind that the social visa option is a single entry and therefore, if you leave the country once within the 180 day time frame, it is then null and void. (And much harder in the processing as you have to do it with a larger amount of paperwork, from a consolate before you arrive.). It was the right option for our family, and glad we got it before leaving Hong Kong, but def took an effort and will keep us grounded for a spell!

You can get multiple entry business visas which are valid for 12 months, but each stay is a maximum of 60 days. That would probably suit your situation best.

Agreed, that is a good solution. Also, do note that if you spend at least 183 days in Indonesia in any 12 month period (i.e., this can be over two years), you will become liable for Indonesian personal income tax on your worldwide income.

Does the multiple entry business visa require a letter from a business in indonesia stating that the visitor will be doing business with them,

That was the requirement in the past. It may have been changed in the last 3 or 4 years that I have been on the retirement visa.

Thanks Mark, I understand an allowance is made for tax paid overseas so I would only pay the difference. Happy to do so. My wife won’t be working, she she still register and then show a zero tax return?

I have read on some visa agents web sites that they can sponsor, seems like a good idea for me. Would there be a problem applying for a second and third year?

Yes, you should be able to get a credit for the tax paid as I believe there is a double taxation treaty with Australia. As for your wife, if no income then no need to register for tax or file a return.
