Any updates on permissions for foreign spouses to work in RI?I'll soon be on a KITAP, and my husband wants to start a second business, would I be permitted to work for him, or would he need to get a work permit for me? Anyone have first hand experience with this? (we'll consult immigration/agent soon about this, but was wondering if any expats in similar situations have experience with this).

none that I know of since 2011

Apparently you can if it is a small business. Unfortunately nothing is clear at all, which I guess is immigration's intention. My friend who has a small guesthouse asked immigration when they came to his house for the interview and they said he could work within the confines of his property. I know he used to use his own picture on Airbnb but changed to his Indonesian wife's sometime ago to be on the safe side.

You gotta just let this situation slowly melt on the tongue - here is the only country in the fecking world where if you are willing to throw everything you have - even your genetic material - into the country you want to live in THEY STILL WON'T LET YOU LIVE HERE!!!

I'd read on other forums that spouses of WNI can engage in informal work in the business of their spouse which doesn't need an IMTA. It's still not defined clearly (typical) and a grey area but I guess, unless frequented by the investigators, very likely to be acceptable so long as keeping one's head low.Your circular also indicates that WNI's, who previously lost Indonesian citizenship due taking another Nationality, can recover a Kitap. My wife is in that position but doesn't know where to start......when due, I will push her to use an agent. Has anyone else received a Kitap due to being a previous Indonesian citizen? How was it done...details would be appreciated.

As with the other comments on Atlantis' threads I walk away knowing not one bit more about the question. Therein lies the problem with this whole issue - no one can definitively say what is legal in any particular situation and what is not. Everyone here is at the mercy of some small time immi official that might or might not need money to scrape through till the end of the month. If one of these "gentlemen" decides that you are contravening one of the poorly written and convoluted regulations that even the Indonesian lawyers have difficulty understanding then you are for the high jump. Simple. If you wish to fight said "gentlemen" then get ready for a world of hurt and expense.

Do you ever read what you write before pressing "send"? I know you can actually speak English (sort of New Jersyish, but hey!) more or less.

Don't bother sticking up for him, we as an NGO have seen him give out totally erroneous 'advice' and when proven wrong he simply deletes all criticism. He loves quoting 'facts' and posting reams and reams of pages in Bahasa Indonesia to back up his claims. You will note though at some stage in every thread he manages to quote his 'business' interests and abilities. Go ahead and respond Olly, we know you troll every forum in Indonesia to find references to yourself.

Markit it is not MY circular as davita typed I just clarifiying it that it from Indonesia Immigration department
Smoke...as English isn't your mother tongue may I help a little. The word 'YOUR' as in my post 'Your circular' is a possessive pronoun. That means as you possess the circular...it is YOURS. Just like your house is YOURS...doesn't mean it's the builder's house, or the previous owner's house, unless, of course, your new wife is the nominee....then it's HER house...:icon_razz:If I had wanted to refer to the circular belonging to the author, or the Immigratio Dept., I would have described the context of my post more appropriately. I was simply congratulating for posting good information YOU had in YOUR possession.:cupcake:
