Which visa for pre-retirement stay

I am moving to Bali in January with my wife. We will only be 50. Can we get social visas back to back for a number of years without too much risk? We will both leave several times a year so might need say 4 entries a year rather. I will likley do some work in Darwin every couple of months. If I stay less than 60days is that better on 30 day on arrival then extend,a 60 tourist visa through the embassy or still a social visa? Any advice on what is best to raise less suspicion would be great. I am lucky to be able to afford this without working but am concerned how back to back visas might look to immigration.

I am awaiting responses on this question as well, we are looking to do the same thing. The difficult part about the social visa (if you want to leave to travel) is that though you can extend 3 times up to 6 months, it is single entry, so if you leave, you lose the complete opportunity to use it any more at that point, even if it is just 1 week in!

Re: post #1 & 2. Many do back-to-back social visa and I did for a few years. We were asked once and I said we're on a visit waiting for our relative to die but she's stubborn...he grinned and stamped my passport. There is also a multi-entry Social Visa available. It lasts a year but you have to leave and return every 60 days. I did that for a year but got tired of having to arrange the trips to KL and back. If leaving and returning it's all a matter of planning and fitting to your personal requirement...knowing the systems available is the best advice.

Thanks Davita, I was unaware of that. I will look into this. Would immigration frown be traveling back to Australia to work or would I need a different reason?

Indonesia Immigration are more concerned about foreigners using subterfuge to overstay and illegally work in Indonesia. As you are doing the opposite I doubt if they are concerned. Many miners from Australia did what was called Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) and their families stayed in Indonesia on Sosbuds...not sure if that is still popular especially now mining has declined.
