How embarrassing Indonesia...[/QUOTE]Remember when they were supposed to knock a few zero's off the RUPIAH?:icon_redface:With the latest debacle between Police and KPK (fuelled by politicians) I'm sure all other issues of good governance are on the back burner. I'd hate to be on death row where sycophanting the public seems the only way to divert media attention from the real problems.I predict if this conflict isn't resolved soon and people in Jakarta take to the streets, Markit's previous post of the Rp value being more than 15,000 to USD may be near, as the foreign direct investors (FDI) flee. Strangely, the Jakarta Stock Index peaked to an all time high today...I wonder who was stoking the bids...and why. If this conflict continues I'll be interested to see the index next week. IMO this is a critical moment for RI's future. I'm keeping my passport real close and handy.

Jakarta Post today reports that the Visa Free for Australians will not happen. The plan is to go ahead with VOA free for the other 4 nations. No reason was given except a 'high-ranking" official said "For Australians the visa on arrival is enough. Giving free visas to Australians may bring more detriment than benefit. Besides, Bali would still be their favourite destination anyway. I don't think a VOA for US$35 would be a burden for any Australian tourist."The same news reveals Indonesia attracted 8.8M tourists in 2013 while Malaysia had 25+M and Thailand 26+M. Neither of those neighboring countries charge for VOA and normally it's for 30 days...except for some nationalities. Indonesia plans to attract 20M tourists by 2019.....way to go RI!

I suggest that Oz points out to the Indo gov that if they wish to carry on in this silly and childish way with killing Ozzy prisoners and charging Ozzy tourists for the "pleasure" of coming here that Oz would simply issue a travel stop for its citizens. The Oz gov would no longer be able to support or offer services for its citizens to travel to this poor, confused country.
