I am sitting in the beer garden of a quiet Queensland country pub. There is one other couple here besides myself. The couple have ordered food which is now being served but they are not in the officially designated area where you are allowed to eat. So they have to move. The waitress was quite clear about this. The order was delivered in a tone that brooked no argument "You are not allowed to eat there". This is what has become of a once free country over the past 25 years. One more reason why I will be moving to Bali very soon.

The Nanny State! I really value some of the freedoms in Bali, like taking our small dog to restaurants and hotels, no need for pool fences, and while I don't smoke, my partner does so I appreciate the relative freedom for smokers. And then there's things like no breath-tests, freedom with fireworks. But on the other side, Indonesia has some restrictions, like in some cities getting a beer during Ramadan, our ISPs block places like Netflix or reddit, and so it goes....
