Living in Bali for next to nothing

Maybe some of you will remember the post first appearing on FB in the Bali expat group about this guy moving to Bali with little money for a documentary. Well I enjoyed the documentary and Bali looks great in it. I also remember the time when the guy was here (in Bedugul) and how bad the rain was at the time. I honestly wonder how they survived. Interesting watch. Couldn't help but feel though that these were among the most naive people I have ever seen... Also wonder how they were able to stay in Bali for 7 months without doing a visa run... Must have been arranged and paid for by the tv network.

I am pretty sure they came on social visas. I don't know what they did for the last month. There was never any mention of doing a visa run. I know they spent the last few days camping on a beach somewhere. I know Daniel has some interesting beliefs, such as urine therapy, flat earth and free energy machines.

Yes, I watched the video and almost regret it now. There are still people as naive as them? For a while, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I thought that “Daniel” was a complete idiot. Unless I’m mistaken, his children are all girls so why does he call “Oliver” his [B]son[/B]? I thought that “Oliver”, apart from being very beautiful, was probably the most realistic of the lot. Daniel dreamt of surfing and snorkelling every day and wound up in Bedugul? [I][B]Really?[/B][/I] Why would anybody in their right mind go to Ubud first to try and live with no money? Further along, Australian David was right, IMHO, that he couldn’t see them pulling their “plan” off. Five people in Bali with with no money? The wife had a smartphone. Even if they managed to get close to their “dream”, how much would they have had to pay for their visas, etc.? Oh, Daniel would pray to the “Universe God” to protect them from the ravages of a wet season? Unbelievable. Didn’t even know there [I]was[/I] a wet season in the first place! I wonder, if they had no money left, how did they pay their airfares to retreat back to Italy? I just hope that Daniel finds enough bamboo in Italy to keep his dream alive. Good luck on that. And I hope that the kids can drive some sense into their parents. o_O

The whole thing looks awfully like another of those appalling, fake "reality" shows. Jack sets off into the wilderness if anything happens to him now he will be beyond medical help etc. Except there is a TV crew with him who must have a camp, backup helicopter and whatever funds are necessary if something goes completely wrong. I wonder how much each family gets for the ordeal?

I think it was pretty low budget. I know they got some money, but not a lot. I am "friends" with Daniel on FB and I believe it played out fairly accurately. Actually I think the producers of the tv show to him were fairly kind and put him in a pretty good light.

I think the word you were looking for was "crackpot", not "interesting ".
