Hi. A great forum. Thanks for admitting us.
We are an Australian couple forced (not unhappily) into an early retirement with retrenchments. Kids all grown up. No ties. We've decided to sell up, count our blessings and seek a better life in Bali as self-funded retirees.
We're widely travelled and have been here (and Java and Lombok) twice before and love it. We're looking forward to exploring the island more with a view to finding a new place to call home.
Looking to meet new friends and would appreciate any advice on settling here.
We are not out to start a business or anything like that - just relax and enjoy life (bringing our money with us).
We like keeping healthy, good food, walking, etc. Hobbies include reading, writing and painting, with wide interests. (Educated professionals.)
Our situation is uncomplicated. Both Aussie born, Aussie citizens, late '50s, not on welfare, no special categories, no nasty habits, enough money not to be a burden on the good people of Indonesia. Currently here on a 30 day visa, then hopping over to Malaysia for a bit before coming back for a longer stay. Then start the process of finding a visa agent, renting, and so on.
Cheers

Made that jump 11 years ago, excellent move. I suggest you start with long stays (a matter of weeks) in the south, the north, the east, and I guess the west. Also more central like Ubud. Give thought to your transport. Will you drive, ride motorbikes, or hire drivers? This has a big influence on property selection. And if you are near to Ubud at some stage, call in.
