Every Friday, my wife, a Jakartan, living with me between Sanur and Ubud, and a few local low-income friends provide nasi bungkus to needy locals. There are a couple of "bules" in Sanur who occasionally donate a sack of rice. Other than that they collect funds from amongst themselves and from a few other friends who now live far away, but who transfer USD10 now and again. Yesterday my wife and her group made and then took 45 nasi bungkus to the rubbish site opposite Lottemart. There were over 100 scavengers sorting the rubbish in order to be able to make enough money to feed themselves and their families. The 45 nasi bungkus didn't go far! My wife has promised to take packets next week. This group also takes nasi bungkus to an orphanage.
The packets they make are much bigger, and more nutricious than the usual nasi bungkus - that usually costs around Rp 6k, whereas these ones cost Rp.10k each.
Any help from anyone would be much appreciated. If you wish to donate food or money, please leave a message for me and I'll arrange collection.
