harryopal wroteYou seem to be caught a bit like the postwar POMS who were able to ship out to Australia for just 10 pounds. It was a major cultural shock. Australia was an uncultured, vulgar, narrow minded place where most eateries just offered steak and eggs, eggs on toast and very limited choice. (No cheap shots please such as "Nothing's changed") The ten pounds Poms had to go where they were sent and many found themselves in places like the Snowy Mountains in Nissan huts, mud up to their knees and not particularly friendly locals.
Understandably many became very homesick and went back. But then, after a while, some found they were missing the sunshine and blue skies and returned to Aus. Some did that several times.
Gday, well I was introduced to Greater Jakarta first so I am used to traffic and noise and pollution, but the Malls in Bali just don't cut it for me, well Lippomall was ok just too small. I like Singapore, Kl and Cairns. I should try to stop comparing Bali to them but one thing that all have in common is the TROPICAL weather. Whether that has anything to do with the Bali Magic that some are hooked on, possibly. I too love Tropical weather , warms my bones immensely so but I do like user friendly services, I have been around Indo for a while and have a reasonable understanding of how things work, but this I find at times a waste of my time and let my wife worry about it. I am not cut out to be living below a western standard, thus I wonder why other westerners put up with it? My dear Grandmother was one, from Scotland, cooking for shearers, hotels etc maybe her great qualities rubbed off on me, she didn't put up with crazy tings, just saw something that was broken and tried to fix them, a no die attitude, which Some have it and some don't. Which one are ye T.
