The Ngurah Rai International Airport’s Customs and Excise Office declared on Wednesday its commitment to creating an integrity zone across all of its working areas. As part of its commitment to integrity, the Office will ensure the airport is corruption free.
Any custom officers found guilty of attempting to take bribes or commit corruption would face sanctions, Ngurah Rai Customs and Excise Office head Himawan Indarjono said.
“The sanctions include dismissal and they could face criminal charges,” he said.
Himawan said that although it had only just been officially declared a corruption free zone, this did not mean the Ngurah Rai Customs and Excise Office had previously not made attempts to fight corruption.
“We had enforced the procedures needed to create a corruption free zone before today’s declaration. Through today’s declaration, we are expressing our commitment to make our best effort to ensure Ngurah Rai Airport is a corruption-free area,” said Himawan.
Following the declaration, Himawan said he had asked related parties to play active roles to monitor the performances of the airport’s Customs and Excise officers to improve the quality of their service.
