I also believe that they check the books for immoral and illegal content too - nothing about sex or communists, god forbid sexy communists.

List them as 'textbooks' or 'educational items' a good friend of mine just shipped a large number in from China and only lost 23 copies taken for 'checking'

I don't know where you live but I see little "shops" selling second hand books all over Kuta. I was on holiday at the time and I was sort of leaning toward books that were good pool reads

sorry, taken me a while to get to this but a big ol' thanks!
No probs. FYI the literary branch of the family has sourced a good quality printer on Batam. Example - he is getting on or around 300 page paperbacks printed for Rp80,000 each with no minimum quantity. Once the print runs increase there is a fair discount. The covers are full colour glossy and the inner page weights are the industry standard.

What's he selling them for if they cost $6.40 each to make?
Markit
If you are importing a lot of anything, best to get an importers license. It will reduce the duty by 5%
Out of curiosity how much does the license cost to get? Or does that depend on what you are moving?
sakumabali
I did it a couple of times....and every times different taxes :( so I sent it to a friend first to take away plastic & bills and put some old stuf on it....no problems since
