Hi there, I'm a traveling yoga teacher and I usually offer spontaneous beach yoga classes wherever I go. I will be coming to Bali soon on a regular tourist visa and I'd like to do the same there. Will I get into trouble if I dont have a KITAS? My classes are free and donation based and usually just attended by tourists. Thanks in advance for your help!

There no working in Indonesia, no donating your time, offering free services, accepting money for anything. It's all classed as "work" here and we aint allowed to do any of that shit. Now me, I'm all for the "no work" ethic but there's lots that want to do it and come end of the month (when the salary runs a little low for Gov employees) they tend to swoop on the known areas where this kind of illegal activity takes place - Ubud (Yoga Barn), Sanur (Yoga on the Beach), etc. You get the idea. If you don't want to get into trouble then don't offer your services anywhere where the IMMI are likely to turn up. Problem is that's where you are likely to get your customers so it's a bit of a dilemma aint it?

Thank you for the reply Markit! That really sounds kind of extreme... are you sure they are that strict? And how will they know I'm not just practicing with a group of friends on the beach. If I don't charge money there is no actual proof I'm even offering a service. These yoga lessons are not a big money maker for me, it's mostly just a fun project and I just think it would be sad if I couldn't do it in Bali... anyone else have an opinion?

Hi TinaHow long you will be stay at Bali? If you only stay for 3 month, and only teach every weekend in every different spots, that will be OK.And better said to your group that you teach for free, no money included because you never know who will be the spy and give information to the police. Like Markit said better not advertize about your class, or you will be in trouble since Immigration polices will try to catch all foreign that take advantage whiles the visa is only tourist.And welcome to Bali.
