I'm looking for information on signing a business agreement between two americans in bali. It's specifically to rent real estate in bali from an american living in bali.

Legal agreements, contracts, document verification etc are done by notaries. They are everywhere....just look for a street sign saying Notaris.

Welcome to the forum spicymango. My advice to you is to engage a notary to ensure that the agreement is valid under Indonesian law. Being an American or contracting with an American in this country doesn't matter.

I'm currently in USA and ideally want to have agreement signed between myself and the American currently in Bali

If it's a standard lease agreement you want then a Bali Notary will have those in stock...all it will need is to fill in the details. It will be in Indonesian so you will need it translated to be in agreement with your understanding.
The person in Bali will sign, witnessed by the Notary, and I presume you will need a lawyer to witness your signature in USA.
I would caution that Law in Indonesia is not so easily litigated as in the USA. Somethings have to be taken on trust so, if you're uncomfortable with that, or if the person in Bali is from Chicago.... then I'd bail. ..
The alternative is to come to Bali and ensure everything is according to your wish.

I'm not sure I totally understand your reply. It is for a short term rental of a villa property for several days for a wedding. The owner / manager is an American living in Bali and I along with my fiance are Americans who intend to rent the property.
The villa relayed to us that only once did a client ask for an agreement. It's not that we are suspicious but found that have a written agreement in place is optimal

I’m sorry if I’ve misunderstood you, but if you’re only renting a place for a few days, why bother with a rental agreement, notaris, etc? There is no shortage of spectacular accommodation that would suit your purpose.
Unless you want to stay here after the wedding.

I also misunderstood spicymango...I was under the impression you wished to enter into some long-lease business agreement.
If you are just renting a place for a wedding....that isn't much different than reserving a hotel room for a few days.
It doesn't require notaries, signed documents etc....a simple written contract of understanding i.e. dates, price and requirement suffices.
You pay a reservation deposit and, after arriving and the place is suitable, you pay the remainder.

Now I get your issue spicymango. It's for your wedding, you and your guests are traveling half way around the world for the biggest day of your life and above all else you don't want to disappoint your bride due to a screw up with the venue. Unfortunately, there's not a lot that can be done, other than what davita advises, which is a simple agreement setting forth the key points. It's obviously different from dealing with a major hotel chain that has a reputation to preserve, so in this case your risk is higher. To put your mind at ease just ask for the simple written agreement, shouldn't be a big issue. And pray for good weather...

Hi Spicy...if you are suspicious about an agreement with a private villa rental here is a company that can process the whole wedding .......
