Don't worry Marcia...we don't "flame" on THIS forum!

It's been some time since i had a look at this forum.
Just read the last 4 posts from Bert's expats weblog, and really enjoyed reading about day to day life. Particularly liked the pics.
Then i skim read Vincent Og's post, "how to live in Bali" guide. I've no intention of ever living in Bali, as i love my own country too much to be anywhere else. However, Vincent's friend offers lots of great help so i'd be sure to refer anyone thinking of moving there, to this forum
Anyone from anywhere else wants to flame me for saying this- that's ok, i can handle speaking my own view .

Just quickly introducing myself!
Really I am just a Bali lover, have been visiting regularly the last couple years and would love to learn more from other like minded people! Considering making the move with a young family soon.

Hi everyone! I'm Juliana - Indonesian, married to a French man, living and working in London. Work-wise, I'm a corporate lawyer and my husband is a website/SEO developer. We go back to Indonesia and Bali often (naturally, because I miss it a lot, my parents are there and my husband and daughter loves it). It's been a while since we're thinking of going back to Indonesia - perhaps it won't hold true in the near future for us (still need to work unfortunately...), but we are in the process of buying a piece of land in Lovina (just so that we can build a permanent place for my parents and just so that we have a permanent place to go back to when we are in Bali). My mum currently owns a 'warung' in Jakarta.
True, that doesn't make me a true expat, but oh well... hello everyone! Would love to meet some of you when we are next in Bali! :)

Welcome to the forum. I think the biggest difficulty moving back would be education for your kids. The options have increased a little but I am sure the standards are lower than in the UK.

Hi spicyayam - agreed. We were looking into lycee francais de bali or the north bali bilingual school. The former would obviously mean that we have to live in the South and my parents in the north (since that's where they really want to be). Has anyone had any contact/experience with the north bali bilingual school?
spicyayam
Not personally, but I know quite a few people who are happy with the school.

Legal due diligence is critical, but is no substitute for the many other issues that need to be confirmed before a property transaction. For example, road access, power, water, zoning, neighbor issues, location of nearby temples etc. etc. My advice is to tread very carefully...

Hello everyone,
I’m Mark and new to Bali. I’m from the USA and semi-retired.
I hope to make some good ex-pat friends here.
I’ve lived all over the world as an Airline Pilot.
It could be a passing fancy but I really love what Bali has to offer.
Cheers
SamD
Our resident aviation expert Davita will no doubt introduce himself in due course. He is also an ex-airline captain living in Bali.
Hope you find what you are looking for here. Take your time to settle in and find your way around. It is a beautiful place still with all its faults.

Thank you SamD, I appreciate that.

Hi everyone,
I am coming to Ubud in a few weeks to look for a villa to rent for December and January. What’s the best way to go about finding someone to show me some properties. During my two month stay I am very keen to do some voluntary work with children. I have done this before in India so nothing shocks me! Has anyone got any ideas. I am a qualified ESOL teacher but am happy to do anything. While lying around a pool reading a book for two months may seem idyllic to some people I can do this for about an hour then want to be more productive! I’m so looking forward to coming back to Bali it’s been a couple of years since I was there because I have been exploring India. Cheers, Lizzie

There are some facebook groups for property, that seems to be the most popular way to advertise property. Also if you stay in a guesthouse and mention that you want to rent somewhere to stay longer, they will know someone to show you around. Or just drive around the area you want to stay. Unfortunately there is no real visa for volunteering, so you do need to be careful about doing this kind of "work" in Indonesia, even if it is unpaid and you are helping the community.
