Markit wroteWhy would anyone try to shoe-horn their lives into some old fecking building that was originally conceived for a poor family of rice farmers? Sounds really fecking romantic but once you've got the termites (yes, in teak too!) running up your legs and the rain running down your faces you'll not find it so "romantic".
For what it's worth my advise is to go to Green Village/School near Ubud and see what wonderful things are being done with plain, cheap, bamboo and you will quickly forget about Joglos.
I know which I'd rather spend time in,,,?

I would choose Joglo, even when I love bamboo, in fact I love anything made from natural and simple materials. I have been always so interested about Joglos, for me they have a special energy, feeling or whatever it is, its own charming and very cosy. Probably because in a way remind me the use of wood in the old days in western countries on the countryside, my grandmother house had a stair and floor of wood. I love wood!
