Sore bum

I have the Honda Vario 150cc F1 Great bike for 2 of us, plenty of power for the conditions, overtaking slow trucks and steep hill climbs up north etc. We are often doing some 3 - 3.5 hour rides and returning in the next few days The seat is killing my butt and cutting off circulation in other important areas. Anyone know of somewhere good to get the seat re done / reupholstered to be more comfortable? and still look good. Cheers

Ahhh motorbike seats... My mate had a Vario and was happy until I got a NMAx. He mentioned his ass hurt after a couple of hours on the road. I happened to mention mine never did. Many rides later he bought an NMax. His Nmax was a year later than mine and had a slightly different seat. His bum hurt later, maybe an hour, than with the Vario BUT earlier than mine (older Nmax and slightly different seat). Mate thinks he's got the prob sorted and has whittled away at the polyester of his seat until it's really uncomfortable. Through gritted teeth I insist my seat is wonderful. Moral of the story: Shut the fuck up and take a Bintang break now and again.

I do take the breaks, but usually its a coffee on an early ride - Bintang after 11.00am The Nmax is ridiculously big for a scooter, not much good for Kuta/Legian riding the lanes :)

I think the nmax is just the right balance for highway and lanes here , now the tmax or burgman are too big.

But the Tmax is very cool but absolutely not the bike for asia's windy, small roads. The Nmax is just the right balance of maneuverability and power.

Also like the nmax - good balance, very stable and easily handles two persons. ABS nice as well. Curious to try the new xmax 250, which is just out, may be great for the longer rides.

No Problems, One other thing that can make a difference is your clothing and underwear. I don't want to delve too much into your unmentionables, but cotton undies and/or materials that breathe easily can prevent you from sweating (as much!) and reduce irritation around your undercarriage. I have spent long periods on bikes and worked out fairly quickly to steer away from nylons and synthetics! Happy riding

Hi Andrew P, You will find heaps of YouTube videos for this. It is the plight of almost every motorbike rider! I have made a number of easy seat modifications for bikes in the past easily and inexpensively. The best solution (for me so far) has been to get a piece of waterproof fabric/vinyl and cut it to the shape of the seat making sure there is enough of an overlap to wrap around the underneath the seat (this is where you will staple it to the underside of the seat. Then get a slab of medium density foam and cut that to the same size as the seat. Place the foam on the seat with the new fabric over the top. Pull the fabric around the underside of the seat and staple into place. Do this all straight over the top of the original seat. That way you can remove it at any time and restore it to its original condition. If you want someone else to do this for you, you won't necessarily need a motorbike shop or upholsterer. Just someone with a pair of scissors and a staple gun. I bet if you can find a fabric or even curtain shop they will have all the items and skill you will need. Good luck and comfy riding.

The ABS is great - just remember the guy behind you probably doesn't have it... Bit concerned that the windscreen on both the bigger models looks just right to chop off your head in a head-on.

Thanks for the tips and ideas, This morning I bought one of the black stretch/mesh style seat covers and cut some foam from an exercise mat that slips underneath for the longer rides. - seems to be an improvement Ill see how it goes. Cheers

Seems to be many places in Bali where new motor cycle/scooter seats, recovered seats and custom built seats, are sold I've see many roadside providers of this product just driving thru' Jl. Malboro..... no need to DIY.
