CBN Internet- experiences/ recommendations?

Hi All Does anyone currently (or previously) use CBN for their internet? Currently we have IndiHome on a 20MB connection, but will be moving to new villa next month and thinking of changing. IndiHome is okay, but we don't make use of the home phone or TV much so looking for alternative. Also the random censoring/blocking of content is a real paid when even basic sites that I use for work in Australia are blocked. Thanks

Thanks for that. Is the monthly price the same as in website or are there additional 'extras' you are forced to pay like modem or to box rental??? Also did you go direct with them for the install?

I use IPVanish which costs about AUD 100/year. It's fast, many servers world-wide, can connect five devices simultaneously, many available protocols, no restrictions on P2P downloads, no logs, etc. There [B]are[/B] "free" ones , but you get what you pay for.

I find Indihome still great and for any "blockage" I resort to SetUPVpn (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/setupvpn-lifetime-free-vp/oofgbpoabipfcfjapgnbbjjaenockbdp) who are really truly free. No clue how! PS I'm using Mozilla Firefox as a browser so it also works with them...

Thanks for that. Already have a VPN, so no issues there. Was more curious around price, as I have seen some people advertising CBN installation and packages on Facebook and they seem a decent amount higher than the prices on the CBN website. Curious to know that people are paying for and getting.

If you already have a "proper" VPN, how come you're still experiencing blocking/censorship? That shouldn't be happening. Regarding CBN. [I]Sounds[/I] good (and relatively cheap), [B]IF[/B] you're in one of their coverage areas. Same thing with BizNet (and others).

CBN is great, 500,000 IDR + 10% tax for 10mbps down/up - best cable I have had in Bali. Netflix & The Pirate Bay both worked. I have have Indihome cable as CBN wasnt available and I cant watch Netflix now :(

Thanks for that. As a side note has anyone tried BizNet? Packages seem to be decent price but stated speeds seem a lot higher. I know this is always 'theoretical maximums', but interested to hear experiences with people that might have used them.

I have a Balinese friend who runs a bar/restaurant in Sanur. It uses BizNet and he recently upgraded to 20 Mbps. Works very well and costs less than my 10 Mbps IndiHome service. I've checked his speeds many times and they're very good, even with a bunch of customers all logged in at once. Wish it was available in the street where I live. Meanwhile, I'm going to upgrade my IndiHome to 20 Mbps, soon (when I get around to it). [I]Could[/I] go for 50 or 100 but Telkom's charging too much for those.

It's not cheap to give away bandwidth, maintain servers and all the rest. So what's in it for them? Oh - you [I]might[/I] decide to pay for their Pro service and they promise not to hassle you to upgrade. A while ago their "free" version wasn't even a VPN - more like a proxy. People complained about multiple script errors that screwed their internet connections. Perhaps those were teething problems and all is good now. Have you actually read their "terms of usage" and "privacy policy"? (Most people don't.) They unashamedly point out that they collect (and keep) all kinds of information but promise not the share it with 3rd parties. A good VPN doesn't do this. I've also heard that the free version leaks your IP address as well as DNS. Check it out for yourself - look up [B]IPleak test[/B] and run it. The IP address should [B]not[/B] be Telkom Indonesia. Of course, if you're only using their "service" to by-pass [I]InternetPositif[/I] messages, it [I]might[/I] work OK. Just like a whole bunch of other flaky ones such as Zemana, BetterNet... And is "free" like free air (or beer)? :icon_wink:
