If Internet is important I would put that at the top of the wish list when looking. Don't look at anything without Telkom fiber already connected or at least passing by in the street. Telkom has done a good job of deploying it quickly so it is in many areas, but not all. For the price range you are after, mostly you only get a very small block of land like 1.3 are. I find this claustrophobic as neighbors are so close - but that's just me I guess.

Davita, thank you for taking the trouble to forward those links. I have been looking at on line houses but am reluctant to immediately settle on Jimbaran and still kind of hoping we might find somewhere a bit less tangled. Thanks again.

Thanks also to Ronb and Matsaleh. It would be nice to have a spacious villa on the beach but we are now just on the Australian pension. At least we can manage a house here whereas you can be hard put to find a room in Australian cities for $100 a week. I have been dipping into this and the forumexpat for some while so have drawn up a range of things that we need to check even if we find a likely location. It may take some time. Thanks again

I keep getting email from an American who's selling two (side by side) 2bed/2bath furnished and airconned villas between the by-pass and the beach near Pantai Keramas for US$55,000 each for a 17 year lease...thats like US$270/month. I think he's desperate to unload and maybe likes to rent and get some cash...if interested I can forward the advert to your email. I saw them a couple of years ago when the asking price was double and I was thinking of investing. Could be a good deal imo. They are a short walk to the beach and to the by-pass and next to a fishing village which has a huge public pool.

I would suggest ,as you are here, driving around your chosen areas , then im sure you will find your future residence , just look out for the dikontaktan signs . If you look around the bukit and nusa dua area you will find plenty. great snorkeling at mengiat beach nusa dua .

Back in Bali for 3 weeks but this time to stay. My Indonesian wife had worked in Bali and prefers the idea of living here. My preoccupation is for finding a modest house for somewhere between 30 and 45 jt per tahun. Need a couple of bedrooms and at least a spare room as a kind of workplace. Would like to find somewhere a bit north of the Kuta Denpasar area where the traffic is not so bad but also not too far from a sea front with clear water for snorkeling or at least a pleasant beach for more mundane swimming. The recent eco disaster post on Candidasa is off putting. Last week I drove up to Amed but I don't know that we would find housing there and the wifi is so poor I doubt that my wife would be happy as she enjoys You tube and stuff. At the moment we are staying for a month in Jimbaran and a ten minute drive to the beach. At a pinch I feel I could settle for that region if we could find affordable housing in South Kuta even if the traffic is a pain. I can cope with the driving... the parking confuses me around Kuta and busy areas. Any suggestions as to somewhere worth trying? My London based daughter was recommending Lembongan but I have my doubts that we would find housing there at the level indicated above. It is pertinent to mention that we are "mature aged" (cough cough.) We live in hope.

Hi harryopal and welcome to the forum. In that price range, you will find very little advertised online. As you say you are both "mature aged", Sanur area would probably suit you, however you would have to settle for a house on the other side of the bypass (not the beach side), so maybe 5 or 10 minutes to the beach. There are dozens of local houses in that price range, but the difficulty is finding them. You will have to drive around the area, looking for signs on walls and lamp posts or connect with some local people and ask if they know anyone with a house to rent. I'd also suggest you move to homestay in the area for a week or so, to give yourself time to look around. You could also check on this site, where local houses are advertised. Check out Balimoves.com,,they have a section dedicated to Sanur area,i haven`t had any personal dealings with them but I do look at what they have on offer quite often,im not sure how they operate ,sometimes it seems like you might have to deal with the owner,but they do have some nice places at reasonable prices,dont be put off by the first ones you see on their site with the high price tag,go thru the whole site and you will find some at good value, Matsaleh`s advice is good also but I would advise using a local to make the first contact with owners,Bali tends to see all of us foreigners as walking ATM`S,,,if you make the first approach the asking price will automatically go up,also from past experience a lot of guys there are part time scouts looking for properties for foreigners,i have used one guy some yrs ago and got a good decent place thru him,seems the owner then gives him a commission and I also took good care of him for his effort as he was also the bartender where I used to drink,i still have his phone number if you need it but cant guarantee its still active,but maybe worth a try,

A bit slow in responding as we were returning to Denpasar from Bandung. Thanks for the information Davita. It sounds like a great idea but that would clear out funds I have in hand for covering all set up costs, providing evidence for immigration purposes of funds to support us, coverage of a lease and a reserve for whatever. That said I would be interested in seeing the advt but there seems little possibility of pursuing the matter. Thanks also to NyDave, Denpasar House and Tel522. I will check out Mengiat Beach and the surrounding area as well as following up some of those other leads. Later on I will post where we are at in the quest. Thanks again.
