I thought this article was perhaps a good warning to all of us and maybe a light at the end of the tunnel for those worried about Islamic extremism in Indonesia. I think that the fact that this fella has advocated atheism here and ONLY got 2 years for electronic incitement to religious hatred is a plus when you consider that in many parts of the world he would be dead. Am I being too optimistic? Maybe... http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/04/world/asia/indonesian-who-embraced-atheism-landed-in-prison.html

What I learn in Indonesia is, you must not speak out some bad thing about your city (esp when you are an expat or move in to that city) and talk about muslim in anyway. That dude, was a muslim and he was jailed because he is an atheist now. Not because he is an atheist since he was born.

Everyone is born an atheist or do you know of any families where one or more of the young children are a different religion from their parents?

Dear Balipod Management, I, for one?, would be very interested to know what your proposed plan of action is should one day the police bang on your door with a view to getting the personal details of someone on this forum?Apologetic but adamantMarkit

It is a good question. If I was required by law I would comply. The only personal details kept by the forum however, are the email address and IP address.

Would you inform the forum that this had happened and the members who was being looked for?
balipod-admin
If it was possible to contact them privately, then sure. I don't think I would make any public comment to respect the person's privacy. It would also depend what it is in regards to.

Guess its the same everywhere in Asia where the police and or military can do as they please. There were a lot of reports coming out of Thailand after the military takeover saying that some forums were ordered to hand over all records and details of members or the moderators would all be arrsted for obstrcuting security procedures. One in particular was given a list of nics they wnated to interview saying that they had made posts with negative references to the Thai military.
