My guys have to pay the banjar if they aren't able to turn up for banjar "events" like cleanup or meetings 2 in a row and it's 25k. More and they can get chucked out of the banjar which has dire results for them - no village cremations, religious ceremonies, etc.

thanks to all and Josh for your posts. Maybe this is only for people who owns land and has a house on the banjar and the owners of the houses which are rented, are the ones who pay, or no pay, because according to the information we got, the local people from the banjar may not pay because they participate on the ceremonies and I know and always hear that each banjar in Bali can have their own rules and charges but this is too much, besides my husband is Balinese so we follow the banjar in my husband village.
In theory we shouldn't pay here because we already "pay" in my husband village, I don't understand anything or people is getting so crazy and greedy.
If is about ceremonies, it suppose to be like donations, each house or people donate as much as they want, not something compulsory and so expensive.
