Ben_A wroteHi folks, long time lurker.
Recently I've decided to kick start my dream of moving to Bali to escape the monotony of western life, I'm sure you're no stranger to Westerners looking for advice on this situation, and I realise that I may well be the trillionth person who wants this type of life! Not a problem cause that's part of the fun - but do use the "search" facility for your questions first otherwise people without my sunny disposition can get shirty
When I was in Bali last year, it was suggested that saving up on a western wage and paying up front for a year long lease in Bali would be a good idea. Within 10 months to a year in England, I'll have enough to cover a years lease in Bali, and then some. I also have a small recurring online based income to pay for bills month to month, which would grow if I had the free time when in Bali. First stay a couple of weeks in a homestay in your chosen part of paradise to make sure it really is. Once you have seen it's the real deal then hunt around for something more permanent - this will usually require a longer commitment.
My question is this, am I able to sub let a room on Airbnb to supplement the rental cost and top up my income? I've seen contradicting information, some say it is fine if nobody knows, others say it is illegal, others say that with the landlords permission you can and it is perfectly legal. It is in no way legal to do and your neighbors will most probably turn you in if your landlord doesn't (he would get the house back to re let). If I was to do this, which visa would I be able to do this on? Does this visa involved visa runs, and how many years would I get in Bali before they send me back to Grey Britain?See above.
I have looked at costs, and could break even on the cost of a year lease with a 42% occupancy rate per annum, is this wishful to expect almost half a year of 'bookings' for want of a better term? I'm looking at Badung, along the coast...naturally. Most hotels and luxury resorts are working with a huge marketing budget and a team of dedicated staff and achieve 30% average occupancy so if you can manage 42% sell your services to them. Otherwise forget it.
My idea is to pay upfront for a year of stress free life, where I can expand my online business and skim a few quid on the side with room sub-letting.Nothing ventured, nothing gained but don't plan that as a "must have" .
Thanks, please be gentle when crushing my dreams ;)
