President: Huge Potential to Develop Green Economy

Speaking at the official opening of the 2023 Mahasabha XIII National Congress of the Indonesian Hindu Dharma Student Union (KMHDI) at the Tadulako University in Palu,  Central Sulawesi on Wednesday (30/08/23), President Jokowi encouraged KMHDI to support momentum for green economic transformation in Indonesia.

“I ask KMHDI to prepare themselves to study science, learn about carbon trading , learn about carbon markets , learn about climate entrepreneurship , learn about waste recycling, learn about battery technology ,” Jokowi said, according to a press release published on website of The President of The Republic of Indonesia.

The President said that currently all countries, including Indonesia, are transforming towards a green economy to reduce the impact of climate change. According to him, this transformation is an opportunity because Indonesia has great potential in green energy.

“Energy use is also the same as switching to green energy because we all want to reduce the impact of climate change. Everything green, green, green everything. This is a challenge, but at the same time an opportunity. “This is a challenge but also an opportunity and our country has great strength, has great potential for this,” he said.

If this opportunity is used well, President Jokowi believes that green economic transformation will become Indonesia’s great strength. For this reason, the President encouraged all parties to work together consistently to realize this vision.

“Therefore, it is our collective obligation to always remain consistent with the country’s vision, especially the tactical vision, the grand strategy in competing with other countries,” said the President.

On this occasion, the President outlined Indonesia’s potential for green energy, such as geothermal, hydro or hydro power, wind energy, and solar panels which are believed to be able to attract investors to Indonesia. Apart from that, the government is also building a green industrial area in North Kalimantan.

“Everything uses green energy from the Kayan River that is there,” he continued.

Also accompanying the President at the event were Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Governor of Central Sulawesi Rusdy Mastura, and Chairman of the PP KMHDI Presidium I Putu Yoga Saputra.
