Ministry: 13 Million Taxpayers Submit Income Tax Returns

According to reporting from Jakarta Globe, Indonesia’s Finance Ministry has recorded that nearly 13 million taxpayers filed their Annual Income Tax Returns (SPT) for the 2023 tax year by the March 31st deadline. This figure includes 12.63 million individual taxpayers and 351,420 corporate taxpayers.

Breaking it down, the number of individual taxpayers’ SPT filings grew by 7.38 percent compared to the same period in 2023. Meanwhile, corporate taxpayer SPT filings increased by 5.15 percent from the same period in 2023.

Indonesia’s Finance Minister, Sri Mulyani, expressed appreciation to the public who actively participated in filing their SPT, whether online or conventionally at tax offices, say Jakarta Globe.

“Thank you and appreciation once again to all taxpayers who comply with the regulations. With tax revenues, we build an independent, prosperous, and fair Indonesia,” she said.

The number of taxpayers who filed their taxes is still far below the total estimated number of taxpayers, which is approximately 69 million people, say Jakarta Globe, adding that in 2023, tax revenue recorded a growth of 8.9 percent, reaching IDR 1,869.2 trillion, approximately 3 percent higher than the government’s target.

Indonesia’s tax ratio in 2023 reached 10.21 percent of the GDP. Although this is a slight decrease compared to the previous year’s 10.41 percent, the realization exceeds the initial target of 9.61 percent set for 2023, according to Jakarta Globe.
