Minister Optimistic West Kalimantan’s Tourism Sector Will Grow

Speaking at the National Tourism and Creative Economy Promotion Coordination Meeting in Singkawang, West Kalimantan on Saturday (24/2/24,) Sandiaga Uno, Indonesia’s Tourism and Creative Economy Minister, expressed optimism that West Kalimantan’s tourism sector would continue to progress following the province’s success in entering the top 10 of the Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN), according to reporting from Antara News.

In his closing speech, Sandiaga said the government would continue to support West Kalimantan, including by ensuring the success of Nyobeng Ritual that would take place in May in Bengkayang District, as part of KEN.

According to Sandiaga, the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry is ready to promote the event in a bid to rope in more tourists, says Antara News, adding that he praised the West Kalimantan provincial government for launching the province’s Tourism Event Calendar 2024.

“I would like to congratulate West Kalimantan for the launch of its tourism event calendar. We will continue to amplify promotion and curation to support West Kalimantan’s creative economy by boosting the local economy,” he said.

Antara News reports that Sandiaga also highlighted Singkawang, noting that the city wields enormous potential not only in terms of tourism but also accessibility, thanks to the Singkawang Airport, which is expected to start operating soon.

“We will solidify the ecosystem, as Singkawang now has an airport that will soon be operating. It is also necessary to study the city’s traffic flow to collect the data required for constructing toll roads,” he pointed out.

Sandiaga expressed hope that tourism stakeholders in West Kalimantan would continue to innovate to boost the value of tourism events in the province, including by offering pre-event and post-event activities, according to Antara News.
