VinFast Plans to Build EV Factory

According to reporting from Antara News and Tempo, Indonesia’s Industry Minister, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, has announced that Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast is planning to set up a factory in Indonesia, with construction planned for this year.

“They will invest as soon as they have land. We are currently discussing several potential industrial areas with them,” he said after meeting with President Jokowi in Jakarta on Monday (19/2/24.)

The government has shortlisted industrial areas in Batang, Central Java, and Karawang, West Java, as possible locations for the factory, says Tempo.

“We have offered options, but nothing is confirmed yet,” he added.

VinFast garnered Jokowi’s attention during his visit to the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) on February 15, according to Tempo. VinFast launched a series of right-hand-drive electric vehicles (EVs) at the exhibition, making Indonesia the first country to receive such offerings from the company.

They announced plans to build an EV factory in Indonesia with a projected capacity of 50,000-cars per year, aiming to create jobs and contribute to the EV industry in Indonesia.
