Govt Supports Green Investments for Sustainable Development

Indonesia’s Director General of Sustainable Forest Management at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), Agus Justianto, has highlighted the importance of transitioning to clean energy as a pathway for sustainable development in Indonesia, according to Antara News.

Encouraging green investments to support a clean energy shift and reduce carbon emissions for sustainable development, the government is strengthening planning and control aspects, one of which is through the environmental information system Amdalnet.

Environmental impact analysis (Amdal) is an important requirement for fulfilling business permits, says Antara News.

Justianto explained that the government is also exploring ways to leverage the economic value of carbon in managing greenhouse gas emissions within national development, emphasizing the need to create a transparent carbon economic ecosystem with integrity, inclusion, and fairness.

“Of course, natural resource and environmental management challenges will certainly continue to grow,” Justianto said, and “Indonesia needs to prepare in terms of technology, investment, and governance to ensure sustainable growth.”

Antara News reports that carbon markets and instruments using carbon economic value will be part of efforts to address climate change issues.

In the forestry sector, Justianto said, the KLHK also ensures good governance by implementing the Timber Verification and Legality System (SVLK).

The number of companies certified under SVLK increased from 2,742 in 2017 to 5,461 in 2023, according to Antara News.
