Bappenas Signs MoU to Develop Serangan Tourism Village

Bappenas, Indonesia’s National Development Planning Ministry/ Agency has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Serangan Village Development Partners to turn the tourism village into a sustainable tourism destination, which is expected to boost the local economy, according to reporting by Antara News.

While reading a statement from the Denpasar Mayor on Saturday (27/1/24,) Denpasar city secretary IB Alit Wiradana, said that the attractions at Serangan village not only include its cuisine but also its natural wealth, heritage tourism attractions, and the lives of its multicultural people.

The central government plans to develop Serangan as a tourism village based on the BGC (blue, green, and circular) economic concept, he said.

“The development of Serangan Tourism Village with the BGC concept was initiated by the central government during the G20 Summit, and a master plan has been prepared,” Wiradana said.

The village won third place in the 2023 Indonesian Tourism Village Award (ADWI), says Antara News.

Wiradana said that the development of the village must involve the community so that it contributes to poverty alleviation and does not leave anyone behind, adding that “we hope the younger generation can actively develop tourism in the village so that it can be more feasible economically, culturally, and environmentally.”

Antara News says that the people of Serangan village have the opportunity to improve their standard of living, as the village is located near the Bali Kura Kura Special Economic Zone.

“Do not let the people of Serangan just become ‘spectators’ in their own territory. We hope that they can participate in improving their community,” Wiradana said.

Meanwhile, Bappenas’ director of industry, tourism, and creative economy, Wahyu Wijayanto, said that the MoU is a step toward realizing Serangan Tourism Village as a sustainable tourist destination, according to Antara News.
