According to Antara News, Bali’s Transportation Department (Dishub) is mapping tourist attractions and areas most prone to traffic jams during the Christmas and New Year holidays, and in these areas, they are deploying personnel and opening transportation posts.
Head of Dishub’s Road Traffic Division, I Putu Sutaryana, said on Thursday (21/12/23,) that tourist attractions included the Bedugul Botanical Gardens in Tabanan, Penelokan in Kintamani, Goa Gajah in Gianyar, Kuta Beach in Badung, and Goa Lawah in Klungkung.
Apart from tourist attractions, Dishub is also trying to map areas where road access is often used by tourists during the holiday period, which have the potential to experience overcrowding and cause traffic jams.
“The area from Gilimanuk to Denpasar is definitely congested as is Badung in the Mengwi Pasar Beringkit area and the Canggu area, then Gianyar and the Ubud area,” Sutaryana told Antara News.
In more detail, so that the public prepares themselves, Dishub will be alert to traffic jams in Jembrana, (Jalan Gilimanuk-Denpasar); in Tabanan, (Jalan Raya Selemadeg, Jalan Megati, Samsam, and the Bedugul area); in Denpasar, (Jalan Gatot Subroto, Jalan Imam Bonjol, By Pass Ngurah Rai, and Simpang Pesanggaran).
Antara News say that in Badung, areas to watch out for are Jalan Raya Mengwi, Jalan Raya Kapal, and the Canggu area; in Klungkung, namely Jalan Pedanaan and the Goa Lawah area; in Gianyar, namely Jalan Raya Batubulan, Jalan Raya Goa Gajah, Jalan Raya Ubud; in Bangli, namely the Penelokan Kintamani area, and in Karangasem, the Jalan Amlapura section.
As long as the transportation post runs from 19 December to 3 January 2024, Dishub will coordinate traffic movements with officials in those areas through the Area Traffic Control System (ATCS), totaling 107-points, say Antara News.
If you look at the previous year, 47-percent of people who entered Bali in the year-end period used land routes entering from Gilimanuk and Padangbai or as many as 396,699-passengers. They came with 94,456 vehicles, say Antara News.
Seeing the high number of vehicles entering in 2022 and Dishub’s prediction that there will be a surge this year, Sutaryana appealed to tourists or passengers visiting Bali to properly prepare their journey.
“If you are sick, don’t go anywhere, continue to comply with health protocols, as well as ramp checks on your vehicle. If the vehicle is damaged and cannot be used properly, don’t use it. We and the Bali Provincial Government hope to work together to maintain security, safety and avoid things that we don’t want together,” he said.
