Indonesia’s Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni met with the Norwegian Ambassador to Indonesia, Rut Kruger Giverin on Tuesday (10/12/24,) to level up their countries’ cooperation in reducing greenhouse gas emissions generated by the forestry sector, according to reporting from Antara News.
In his office’s statement cited here on Wednesday (11/12/24,), Antoni noted that Indonesia and Norway will strengthen their ties through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on a partnership for the decarbonization of the forest and other land use (FOLU) sector.
“Indonesia appreciates Norway for the remarkable cooperation we have forged. Both countries are striving to actualize the MoU,” he said, adding that he expressed optimism about the bilateral partnership promoting sustainable development through the sector in question, says Antara News.
“I am convinced that the equal partnership and mutual respect between our countries will help us demonstrate our ambition to emerge as prominent actors in the implementation of the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals, especially in the FOLU sector,” he affirmed.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Giverin said that the Norwegian government is looking forward to the planned drafting of the MoU. She also spoke highly of Indonesia’s commitment to green initiatives, praising the country as a notable actor in actions against deforestation.
Antara News reports that the ambassador expressed hope that Norway would be able to continue to assist Indonesia in carrying out eco-friendly measures against climate change and deforestation.
On the same day, the Indonesian and Norwegian governments launched the fourth phase of result-based contribution funding cooperation.
Antara News says that under this partnership, Norway will provide USD 60 million to Indonesia for the Southeast Asian country’s success in reducing deforestation during the 2019 to 2020 period.
