Indonesia’s Investment and Downstreaming Minister, Rosan P. Roeslani, who accompanied President Prabowo Subianto to a meeting with representatives of the US-Indonesia Society (USINDO) in Washington, D.C., on Monday (11/11/24,) said that the president urged business leaders from the United States to prioritize environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles when investing in Indonesia, according to Antara News.
“The president urged them to not just invest capital in Indonesia but also to apply ESG principles, ensuring their investments benefit the community. This is a very important matter,” Roeslani told reporters, as seen in a video from the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel on Tuesday (12/11/24.)
USINDO is a non-governmental organization dedicated to enhancing mutual understanding between the US and Indonesia and strengthening ties between the people of both nations.
According to Antara News, Roeslani also said that the meeting, held at 4 p.m. Washington time, received a positive response from attendees, including representatives from major US corporations such as Freeport McMoran, S&P Global, Boeing, BP America, ExxonMobil, Citi, and Caterpillar. Many of these companies are already involved in business projects in Indonesia.
“The president also highlighted Indonesia’s current priorities, including food security, energy, downstreaming efforts, and the Free Nutritious Meals program,” said Roeslani, who previously served as Indonesia’s ambassador to the US.
In addition to Minister Roeslani, the Indonesian head of state was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono; Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Stella Christie; Chargé d’Affaires of the Indonesian Embassy in Washington D.C. Ida Bagus Made Bimantara; and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
