Peace and Stability Key to Foreign Investment

Speaking on the second day of the BNI Investor Daily Summit 2024 at the Jakarta Convention Center on Wednesday (9/10/24,) Investment Minister and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Roeslani said that the primary factor attracting foreign investors to Indonesia is the country’s commitment to peace and stability, according to reporting from Jakarta Globe.

“We must first consider how we achieve economic growth. If we look at our economic growth structure, averaging 5 percent, what is our main strength? When I meet with foreign investors, they all point to peace and stability,” Rosan said.

According to him, foreign investors perceive Indonesia as capable of maintaining peace and stability over the long term. He noted that even during crucial moments, such as government transitions, Indonesia has successfully upheld this environment, reports Jakarta Globe.

“This is the main key and one of the priorities they observe—Indonesia has always managed to maintain peace and stability for a very long time. Even during government changes, these transitions have gone smoothly,” he said, stressing that maintaining peace and stability is essential for fostering significant investment growth in the future. He concluded, “This is one of the points we must uphold, and we will continue to pay attention to it moving forward, as it is a key reason why investors choose to invest in Indonesia.”

Prabowo Subianto, who will be inaugurated as the next president on October 20, has promised continuity of outgoing President Jokowi’s programs, indicating a smooth power transition. Jokowi’s eldest son Gibran Rakabuming Raka is also Prabowo Subianto’s vice president-elect, says Jakarta Globe.

“[When I first got elected] in 2014, I needed between 1 and 1.5 years to consolidate everything. That means we lost around 1.5 years back then. … A smooth government transition is pivotal to maintain our optimism, including maintaining both the political and economic stability,” Jokowi said in his opening speech at the 2024 BNI Investor Daily Summit on Tuesday (8/10/24.)
