Minister Encourages Nature-focused Tourism Villages

Speaking during the “Nusantara Tourism Village Competition, Community Development Workers, and Professional Facilitators Awarding Night,” on Saturday (28/9/24,) Indonesia’s Minister of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration, Abdul Halim Iskandar, urged local governments to direct the development of tourist villages toward nature conservation efforts to ensure the sustainability of these businesses, according to reporting from Antara News.

He explained that if the development of tourism villages focuses on environmental preservation, the villages will not only showcase beautiful landscapes but also provide comfort to both local communities and visitors, making the villages more sustainable.

“I believe this approach will have a long-term positive impact,” he said.

Iskandar also emphasized the importance of maintaining hospitality values among tourism village managers and local communities. He encouraged all relevant parties to prioritize cleanliness in their efforts, says Antara News.

The Nusantara Tourism Village Competition was organized to motivate villages across Indonesia to identify and develop their tourism potential in order to boost the local economy.

The competition also aimed to increase enthusiasm and foster curiosity, creativity, and innovation among village communities regarding cultural literacy.

The participants included villages with tourist attractions managed by village-owned enterprises, joint village-owned enterprises, or other entities. They were divided into two categories: underdeveloped, very underdeveloped, and developing villages, as well as developed and independent villages, according to Antara News.
