International Book Fair Begins in Jakarta

Antara News are reporting that the Indonesian Publishing Community (IKAPI) is inviting everyone to participate in the Indonesia International Book Fair (IIBF) 2024, scheduled for September 25 to 29 in Jakarta.

In a statement from the IIBF organizers on Tuesday (24/9/24,) it was announced that the book fair will feature a book exhibition, book launches, author meet-and-greets, book signing sessions with favorite authors, talk shows, and seminars.

The event will also include programs for children, such as storytelling and coloring competitions.

According to Antara News, approximately 60 schools, with over 3,000 students and 400 teachers, will participate in these programs.

Additionally, the IIBF organizers have prepared the Indonesia Rights Fair, Story Market: Book to Screen, Creative Market, Editor Clinic, Illustrator Clinic, and networking events for professionals.

On the first day of the fair, IKAPI will hold an award ceremony to honor individuals in the publishing field who have significantly contributed to the country’s publishing industry, says Antara News, adding that the awards include the Writer of the Year, Book of the Year, Literacy Promoter, and Children’s Book of the Year.

IIBF was first held in 1980 and is the oldest book exhibition in Indonesia and Southeast Asia and is held annually to make books more accessible to everyone.

Wedha Startesti Yudha, Chairman of the IIBF 2024 Committee, stated that book fairs are essential for the publishing industry as they serve as a platform to promote books, build networks, and engage readers.

“IIBF supports publishers and writers in promoting themselves. It serves as an important link among creative industries and fosters a love for books and reading,” Yudha said.
