According to reporting from Antara News, the types of goods that international air passengers who are not migrant workers can bring into Indonesia will be regulated through a finance ministerial regulation (PMK) and will no longer be under the Trade Ministry’s purview.
“Regarding the issue of limiting people from shopping, it will be under the PMK, so it is not regulated by the Trade Ministerial Regulation anymore,” Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan announced on Tuesday (16/4/24.)
Earlier, restricted items or limitations on imported goods were covered by Trade Ministerial Regulation Number 36 of 2023 concerning import policy and regulation, say Antara News.
During a limited meeting between Hasan; Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto; and Director of Communication and Guidance for Customs and Excise Services, Nirwala Dwi Heryanto, agreed that the types of restricted goods will be regulated by the Ministry of Finance.
“We agreed that it will be regulated by the PMK. Just pay taxes if you bought three or two pieces of clothing,” he said.
Furthermore, the government will not strictly implement the limited item policy, he added, saying that the import restriction will only be imposed on goods that have an impact on domestic industries, reports Antara News.
“There will be no restrictions, but only for certain items like clothing that impact the domestic industry. We will only impose the technical regulation that is already complete, others not necessary,” he said.
Trade Ministerial Regulation Number 36 of 2023 has been in effect since March 10, 2023. The regulation includes the restructuring of the import policy by shifting import supervision from post-border to border, according to Antara News.
It also provides relaxations on goods sent by Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) from abroad.
In addition, it also regulates raw material import facilities for industries with an authorized economic operator status or which are customs and excise partners.
