According to reporting from Jakarta Globe, Surabaya has been chosen as the new host for the upcoming Asian Men’s U20 Volleyball Championship, set to take place in July. This decision comes after Taiwan withdrew from hosting the 22nd edition of the tournament.
The Asian Volleyball Confederation announced on Saturday (20/1/24) that the Surabaya tournament will also serve as the qualifying round in Asia for the FIVB U21 World Championship.
Scheduled from July 23 to 30, the championship marks Indonesia’s return to the U20 category after a 36-year hiatus, say Jakarta Globe, adding that Indonesia had previously participated in the men’s U20 category in 1980 and as a host in 1988, finishing fourth on both occasions.
Indonesia’s men’s senior volleyball team has showcased its strength in South Asia, securing the gold medal in the last three SEA Games.
