According to reporting from Tempo, Indonesia AirAsia will add a new international direct flight route from Jakarta to Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia starting on February 6.
Eddy Krismeidi Soemawilaga, Head of Government Relations and Corporate Communications Indonesia AirAsia 2024, said the flight will be three times a week on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday using the Airbus A320 with a 180-passenger capacity.
This will be the only direct flight in Indonesia that connects Jakarta and Kota Kinabalu, says Tempo.
The Jakarta to Kota Kinabalu route marks AirAsia’s commitment to support the Indonesian government and Malaysia, especially Sabah, in improving connectivity and pushing for improvement in the tourism sector, according to Tempo.
Eddy explained that the new route will be the fifth international route connecting Jakarta to parts of Malaysia. The others are Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Baru, and Kuching, adding that “the first Jakarta to Kuching flight had a 100-percent occupancy rate.”
According to the data released by Statistics Indonesia, tourists from Malaysia were ranked first as the largest foreign visitors in Indonesia from the January to November 2023 period, with a total of 15.73-percent or 1,639,254-visitors, say Tempo.
