Immigration Installs Auto Gates at Soekarno-Hatta Airport

Antara News is reporting that seventy-eight new auto gates have been installed at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in an effort to improve immigration services for passengers.

Director General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Silmy Karim, said that the new auto gates, similar to those used by Hamad Airport in Qatar, have been installed at two terminals, adding that fifty-two arrival auto gates and sixteen departure auto gates have been installed at Terminal 3, ten new auto gates have been installed at Terminal 2, and five auto gates have been installed at the arrival and departure terminals, respectively.

“These auto gates can be used both by Indonesians and foreigners. They also integrate face recognition technology with Border Control Management (BCM), which supports immigration supervision at crossings,” Karim said.

He said that to access the auto gates, foreign nationals will be required to have electronic passports and visas, either an electronic visa on arrival (e-VoA) or an electronic visa (e-Visa), which must be submitted on the immigration web page (evisa.imigrasi.go.id), according to reporting from Antara News.

Meanwhile, foreigners from ten visa-free ASEAN countries will be required to register through the BVK application on the web page to use the auto gates.

“Foreigners can also scan barcodes provided at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport and register through the provided link to be able to cross using auto gates,” he said.

Among Indonesian citizens, the auto-gate service can be used by holders of e-passports and non-electronic passports.

Karim advised passengers who wish to use the auto gate to show their faces fully at the gate. Accessories such as hats or masks that cover the face will need to be removed first.

After scanning the biodata page of the passengers’ passports, the auto gate will scan their faces.

“The auto gate will open if there is no suspicious information,” he said.
