Foreign Tourist Arrivals Up by 110.86-percent in 2023

According to reporting from Antara News, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) has reported that as of November 2023, the number of foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia had reached 10.4-million, an increase of 110.86-percent as compared to the same period in 2022.

Acting Head of BPS, Amalia Widyasanti, conveyed the report while delivering an Official Statistical News Release that was monitored online in Jakarta on Tuesday (2/1/24.)

Despite the significant increase as compared to 2022, Widyasanti noted that the number of foreign tourist arrivals as of November 2023 was still lower than the figure recorded during the same period in 2019, or before the COVID-19 pandemic, which reached 14.7-million arrivals, say Antara News.

Especially in November 2023, the number of foreign tourist arrivals in Indonesia stood at almost 920,000, an increase of 30.17-percent from the corresponding month in the previous year. However, in comparison with October 2023, the figure showed a decline of 6.24-percent.

Based on nationality, foreign travelers arriving in Indonesia in November 2023 were largely from Malaysia, with 141,000; Singapore, with 118,000; and Australia, with 117,000 arrivals, say Antara News.

Widyasanti further noted that in terms of the average length of stay, in November 2023, foreign tourists spent around 8.68 nights in the country.

Antara News say that based on entry point monitoring, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali, was the most popular entry point to Indonesia among foreign tourists, with a share of 43.2-percent.

“Foreign tourists that entered through I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport were recorded to be the highest, namely 396,000 arrivals, or 43.2-percent, dominated by foreign tourists from Australia, at 26.4-percent,” she remarked.

The two other popular entry points in November were the Soekarno Hatta International Airport, Banten, and Hang Nadim International Airport, Riau Islands.
