Blue Bird Invests in Eco-friendly Transport for IKN

President Jokowi launched the eco-friendly public transportation project in the new capital of Nusantara (IKN), East Kalimantan, on Thursday (21/12/23,) with the support of Blue Bird, the country’s leading transport company, according to reporting from Tempo.

“The launch of environmentally friendly transportation will help speed up the development of an electricity-based public transportation system in IKN,” the President said during the launch at IKN.

He also reported that Blue Bird has invested IDR 250-billion to develop green transportation. Later, the investment would be used to procure electric rapid transit buses to support urban services, electric taxis, electric rental cars, and electric public buses connecting Balikpapan and IKN, say Tempo.

Blue Bird Group, he added, will also provide integrated supporting facilities using smart technology, including bus stops, park and ride, transfer points, and depots.

This is in line with the initial concept of IKN. “[Which is] a green area, a green environment, green buildings, green transportation, green electricity, green energy. Everything has to be green,” the President remarked.

Tempo add that Jokowi further expressed his appreciation to Blue Bird Group for its commitment to supporting green transportation at IKN, which would create a future of sustainable community mobilization and a cleaner and healthier environment.
