Minister: World Bank Approves USD 30-Million for Tourism Awareness Campaign

Sandiaga Uno, Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy claimed on Sunday (26/11/23) that the World Bank has agreed to fund USD 30-million (approx. IDR 465-billion) to resume the Tourism Awareness Campaign in 2024, according to reporting from Tempo.

In addition to the funding from the World Bank, the ministry has also prepared additional funding for the campaign. These funds will be utilized to support villages in need of human resources and agency improvement.

“We will make sure the funds will be balanced by a good and inclusive management. Not only for its preparation but also the utilization and audit to ensure total welfare for the community,” he said.

So far, the ministry has been calculating the required funds for the Tourism Awareness Campaign in 2024. The ministry has crowned several best tourism villages during this run of the Tourism Awareness Campaign. The awards consisted of five categories with nineteen winners, say Tempo.

Sandiaga hoped these winners would be motivated to escalate and amplify their respective villages through promotional campaigns or acceleration of tourism products.

“Hopefully, this [awards] will create more business and job opportunities, and strengthen our economy,” he concluded.
