Pelindo to Build Wastewater Treatment Plant in Benoa Port

State-owned port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) Regional III will build a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) at the Benoa Port development project in the Bali Maritime Tourism Center (BMTH), according to reporting by Antara News.

“Construction of the plant has been included in the development master plan (RIP) document,” BMTH Project Manager Heru Subekti stated here on Wednesday (25/10/23) adding that the wastewater treatment plant, which will handle office waste, will be built during the 2025 to 2030 period and is a medium-term project.

Subekti noted that the document for the WWTP construction will be followed by the document for budget allocation for physical development. However, he did not disclose the amount of budget required for the project, as the plant’s area and capacity for processing waste are still being studied, say Antara News.

BMTH is one of the government’s national strategic projects whose development is included in Presidential Regulation No. 18 of 2020 concerning the National Medium-Term Development Plan for 2020 to 2024.

Antara News say that Benoa Port will become the center of maritime tourism that aims to increase the economic potential of eastern Indonesia, such as becoming a hub for cruise ship tourism and yacht sailing.

Although the port’s construction is still underway and expected to be completed in 2024, some of the basic infrastructure for supporting cruise ships’ docking has already been completed.

Currently, the dredging project of a channel and pond is being accelerated, and as of October 2023, it is almost 60-percent complete.

The total cost disbursed for the project amounted to IDR 1.2-trillion (USD 75.6-million) sourced from state equity participation (PMN) for infrastructure at sea and IDR 2.2-trillion (USD 138.6-million) from Pelindo’s pockets for infrastructure on land.
