According to reporting from Antara News, next week will see groundbreaking ceremonies for hospitals, schools, malls, hotels, and electricity infrastructures from new and renewable energy in Nusantara (IKN), Indonesia’s new capital in East Kalimantan.
The IKN Nusantara Authority (OIKN) deputy for funding and investment, Agung Wicaksono, said in Jakarta on Wednesday (25/10/23) that the groundbreakings could involve 10-domestic investors with the total investment running into trillions of rupiah.
“Domestic investors work faster in their investment in IKN because they are already familiar with the situation,” Wicaksono said.
Besides groundbreaking in the economic sector, next week, OIKN will also conduct a groundbreaking for a sanctuary island for orangutans at Nusantara, say Antara News.
“The world often highlights the future of orangutans during IKN development. This is our answer. Apart from developing the humans, we are also taking care of orangutans by establishing a sanctuary island,” the official said.
Kelawasan Island in Pemaluan, North Penajam Paser District, East Kalimantan, will serve as the sanctuary island for orangutans, he said.
Antara News report that Wicaksono also emphasized that the development of IKN Nusantara will not ignore the interests of the private sector. Moreover, the government has not denied that the key to successful IKN development is collaboration with the private sector.
The government is relying on private investment for 80-percent of IKN development from the total budget of IDR 466-trillion. Currently, investment amounting to IDR 20-trillion has been received from local investors.
The Indonesian government plans to build IKN and relocate the capital city to shift the economic center further to the center to reach eastern Indonesia. The strength of building IKN lies in a collaboration between the government, private sector, and society, say Antara News.
