Garuda Indonesia to Fly Narita-Denpasar Daily Starting 29 October

According to reporting from Antara News, Sony Syahlan, Garuda Indonesia General Manager for the Japan Region, announced on Friday (13/10/23) that Garuda Indonesia will officially service the Narita-Denpasar round trip route every day starting October 29 2023.

Sony explained that the increase in flight frequency was driven by the recovery of the tourism sector in both countries, especially Bali, which is the main destination for Japanese citizens.

“Of course we are preparing, supporting and accommodating this increased growth by seeking to increase the frequency so that more Japanese tourists go on trips to Indonesia, especially to Bali,” he said.

Antara News report that although the current route only covers Jakarta and Bali, travelers usually continue on to other tourist destinations, such as Yogyakarta, Lombok and Labuan Bajo.

Sony is targeting the aircraft’s load factor to reach at least 70 to 80-percent for initial daily flight operations adding that the additional frequency can provide various choices for tourists and travel agents to be more flexible in arranging their tours.

The more flight frequency, the more tour package choices there will be for Japanese tourists going to Bali. With this daily flight they can spend three nights and four days or four nights and five days in Bali. They have lots of choices and it will be easier for travel agents to sell the tour packages they prepare.” he said.

Antara News say that currently, the frequency of Tokyo-Jakarta flights is still four times a week because it is still dominated by business trips, not tourism. Based on Garuda Indonesia data up to January to September 2023, the number of passengers on the Narita-Denpasar PP route is 47,498-people while the Haneda-Jakarta PP route is 33,747-people, both recording increases from 2022.
