Indonesian President Jokowi inspected the venue for the ASEAN Summit at JCC Senayan in Central Jakarta, on Friday morning, September 1, accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, SOE Minister Erick Thohir, and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, according to reporting from Tempo.
“I have observed the preparations. It’s 99.9-percent ready to hold the ASEAN Summit. There are only small things that need to be fixed within a day or two,” he said after inspecting the location.
He explained that at the 43rd ASEAN Summit, Indonesia would focus on discussing the economy and on how ASEAN could become the center of world economic growth. He hoped that the high-level meeting would also bring benefits even to small communities, say Tempo.
Indonesia will have hosted the ASEAN Summit twice this year. The first was the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on May 9-11, and the second is the upcoming 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta on September 5-7, 2023.
The May summit was reserved for ASEAN member countries only, while the upcoming second summit will also have invited partner countries, such as ASEAN+3 consisting of China, Japan, and South Korea, and ASEAN + CER (Closer Economic Relations) consisting of Australia and New Zealand.
