Plans for Roads in Nusantara to Charge EVs

According to reporting from Tempo, citing Antara News, the Ministry of Public Works and Housing’s task force for IKN Infrastructure Development has announced that the roads on Indonesia’s new capital of Nusantara, or IKN, will be able to charge electric vehicles.

The head of the task force, Danis Sumadilaga, mentioned that the IKN road will have a technology that allows it to charge electric vehicles. “We are exploring a technology since IKN only allows electric vehicles and the roads on IKN will be able to charge electric vehicles,” he said, as quoted by Tempo.co from Antara.

Moreover, Danis said that this technology has been put on trial in several countries.

The charging facilities will also be developed in the IKN toll road’s rest area. “We will try and test whether the technology will be able to be a charging lane for electric vehicles,” he said.

According to Law No. 2 of 2022 on Nusantara State Capital, the future of IKN’s mobility is one that embraces innovation through the principle of mobility as a service, searching for a dynamic route for future mobility modes, including electric vehicles, report Tempo.

IKN will use two types of vehicles for the city transportation system, namely electric-based vehicles and hydrogen-based vehicles.

Tempo say that as a smart forest city, IKN will adopt an initiative to ensure that the transportation system in IKN implements the net zero emissions principle. One of the measures is the implementation of electric vehicles.
