Mount Bromo Remains Closed for Safety Reasons

Tempo are reporting that the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Great Hall (TNBTS) issued an announcement on Sunday evening (10/09/23), about the full closure of access to and/ or through the national park. The closure was put in effect on Sunday at 19:00 West Indonesia Time until further notice.

Head of the TNBTS Administration Division, Septii Eka Wardhani, said that the closure is necessary to ensure all fire extinguishing efforts are conducted well and to ensure the safety of visitors.

He said that the closure would apply to all entrances, namely Coban Trisula, Malang Regency, Wonokitri, Pasuruan Regency, Cemorolawang, Probolinggo Regency, and Senduro, Lumajang Regency. And access is only open to residents of Ranupani Village, Lumajang Regency, and the people of Ngadas Village, Malang Regency. People who wish to cross the Malang-Lumajang-Malang route via Poncokusumo and Senduro are advised to look for alternative routes, report Tempo.

He appealed to the public, visitors, and tourism service providers to protect the Mount Bromo and TNBTS areas from forest fires by not lighting fires and the like, including firecrackers, fireworks, flares, and others. He also urges people to report to officers if they find hotspots in the area.

Tempo report that on Wednesday, September 6, the Watangan Valley Savana Block (Pusung Tumpeng)—also known as the Teletubbies Hill—caught fire after a couple of visitors used flares when taking their pre-wedding photos in the area.
