Jokowi: 161-Strategic Projects Absorb 11-Million Workers

Speaking at the opening of the Sewindu PSN at The Kasablanka Hall, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (13/09/23), President Joko Jokowi said the government has completed 161-national strategic projects (PSN) in the past eight years, which absorbed at least 11-million workers, according to reporting from Tempo.

Jokowi cited data from the International Institute for Management Development which showed that Indonesia’s competitiveness ranking rose from 44 in 2022 to 34 in 2023. He argued that this was the highest surge in the world thanks to the infrastructure projects.

He also demanded all unfinished projects be completed by the first semester of 2024. “Please take another check, and monitor the construction. Don’t let them get stuck or stalled,” stressed Jokowi.

He also called on all stakeholders to be cautious when confronted with any problem and immediately seek solutions. If there is a misunderstanding, clarify it with the public immediately, because sometimes, he continued, a problem arises due to a lack of proper communication, say Tempo.

“There are stalled projects, and I see they are caused by small issues, but this requires power,” he said.

Jokowi further called for all ongoing or pending projects to be given a deadline and clear goals. “If there are any problems regarding land, financing, budget, or licensing matters, please communicate them immediately. Look for innovative solutions immediately,” he said.
