This article contains the official rules and guidelines for the Bali Expat Forum. The rules set forth in this article are enforced by the moderation and administration staff to keep our community running smoothly and to help members understand our purpose, what we welcome, and what we will not tolerate.
Members who continually disregard the rules of the board are subject to account termination. The rules here are simple and straight-forward. We expect our members to adhere to these simple and straightforward rules.
CONDUCT AND BEHAVIOR
Play the Ball, not the Man !!!!
1) This is a peaceful community - we wish to keep it that way. This community has a certain spirit that keeps this a safe place to come and talk about Bali. To keep this community a positive place for everyone, we insist that all members conduct themselves in a friendly and civil manner. None of the following activities are allowed:
a) Directly flaming another member
b) Name-calling
c) Racist remarks
d) Foul language - certain words deemed inappropriate are automatically filtered
e) Questioning members identities (revealing them), truthfulness or capabilities in public. Send a PM to the moderators, or report the post.
f) Any other type of crude behavior that might cause another member distress
g) Personal conversations -- that is what the private message system is for.
h) Linking to other sites is allowed, but think before you link, is the link beneficial for the readers of this forum or not? Don’t link to sites that contain nudity, foul language or are not respectful to people.
i) Advertisements or "Adverisement like" texts, for either goods or ideas. Use the http://www.baliadvertising.net/ to trade.
j) Responding to messages or quoting from messages on other forums. Respond on the other forum.
k) Using the private messaging for commercial purposes, if you want to use the forum for commercial purposes you can always ask for the advertising rates
2) Trolling
a) Trolling is not allowed. Trolling basically means that one's only purpose of membership and board participation is to cause problems, flame and start wars. Those caught trolling will have their membership terminated immediately.
3) Additional thoughts and suggestions:
a) Be tactful in your responses - if you disagree with what someone said, please do so in an eloquent matter -- Flaming and swearing is not only prohibited here, it makes you appear foolish and incapable of intelligent thought. No one likes a troll, so please abide by that all-too-common but apt rule -- "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."
b) Politics. Discussions about politics related to Bali or “expatriaism” are allowed, but don’t make this forum a place to gain support for you political point of view. Also keep in mind that Bali is part of a country with a different style of politics then countries in the west have, and people on this forum are not anonymous.discussions about politics not directly related to Bali are not encouraged.
c) Relationships and Sexuality. Sex is a part of our life and relationships for expatriates, especially those expatriates that have a relationship with a “local”, can be an important issue. Discussions about these matter are delicate, treat the people that want to discuss these matters with respect, and remember that everybody can see your writings.
d) http://www.baliadvertising.net/ is there to trade goods, don't do it the forums.
e) If you ever feel uncomfortable here, for whatever reason, don't hesitate to contact the administration or a moderator.
j) Responding to messages or quoting form messages on other forums. Respond on the other forum.
Previous Posted Guidelines:
It seems necessary for some people to hide who they really are when they express their opinion on the Internet. They can have many reasons for that. Some of those reasons may have our sympathy, other reasons not. If however the opinions they express look like an individual crusade for some cause, and they are persistent in winning people for that cause, I will not allow them to use methods for hiding their identity.
And, this forum is not for personal crusades, how noble they may seem. Anything that starts to look like that will be stopped. Crusaders are kindly advised to start their own forum, and may leave a note on this forum that they did.
Personal Stories:
I encourage personal stories about experiences with either foreigners, Balinese people or companies in this forum. Either good or "bad stories".
In case the story you are telling puts people in a seemingly bad daylight, please don't use their real name or locations.
Don't hold back. These stories need to be told. People that live here or are planning to live here can benefit from your experiences.
Thats what this forum is for.
If someone ever doubts about publishing something, or having published something, it can be discussed via private messages with the administrator, where in most cases wise advice from other moderators will be asked.
Anyone who feels unsafe on the forum, or thinks these rules and guidelines should be changed, or are not applied by a member, please contact me via a private message!
