Yeh the humidity in indo is killer, but surabaya is worse than bali and singapore's the worst of em all.. I wish I needed an ac in the bedrooms for the same reason jimbo, but with 2 toddlers, I've almost forgotten what ur supposed to do with it :)

Natures own contraceptive. lol
i think average southern californian have seen snow, just a drive up to the mountain. LA got 3-4 ski spots with average of 40minute-1hour drive, plus a 40 drive to the beach. hueuheuheuheheu. Cali Caliente.
Yeah, yeah ok - by "seen snow" i meant like walk out your front door and start digging, like get in your car and start sliding. Not in "seen snow" as a tourist attraction.
Lived in San Jose California and once it snowed on the mountain tops all around and the Mexicans were so excited by this first view of snow that a bunch of them got killed driving up to the peaks and packing it on the hoods of the cars to drive real fast back into the valley to build snow men with. Packed so much on the hoods that they couldn't see over it and went off the sides taking the fast way down.
Nature's way of clearing the roads. 8)
I have 6 children so obviously I have'nt :-) :-)I wish I needed an ac in the bedrooms for the same reason jimbo, but with 2 toddlers, I've almost forgotten what ur supposed to do with it
Sorry Mats back on topic I promise :-)
Regards Jimbo
Excellent result DCC. Congratulations!
Can you please tell me the days rate you paid for
1. workers with specialist skills (Tukang listrik etc)
2. general unskilled workers (digging, carrying etc)
My building project is starting to take shape and you can see some info at the link below.
Thanks

Wow! what a fantastic photo diary! Please hurry up and build some more - I'm dying to know how it works out. lol Sorry, got away with my enthusiasm - after a cold shower (here in the UK almost the only kind you can get - but you know that) I'll be ok. Seriously loved the pictures and the ones of lunch had my mouth watering. May I ask why you intend to build 3 houses all with different functions? Purely from a wall-building point of view it would make more sense to have them connected.
Whatever you do don't stop with the diary and London is still awful!

Vincent Black Shadow (know the reference?) - as you have an obvious love of photo taking was a bit of chore to see exactly what you got going on although the 3d illustrations where self explanatory. Looks like a beautiful area!
I rarely paid day labor and would advise you to do the same, avoid the stress of supervising the workers as apposed to the work. I got square and linear meter labor pricing on most all tasks and found for my area that pricing is pretty constant. My base labor price for the house (complete sans electric & water, and my particulars) was 275,000 per mtr sq - when I did pay day rates it averaged 80k skilled and 50k unskilled. I found my self most willing to pay by the day for excavation work as the volume estimates were always on the high side.
Continued good luck mate!

I’m grateful for your response & info.
It’s very useful so thank you.

I don’t have a particular interest in taking photos but I have learned to always have a camera handy in Bali as there are so many amazing things to see. The flickr stuff is done to advise & appal family/friends back home and only gets posted when I have a decent internet connection (i.e. not in Bali) and nothing better to do.
House
I was asked why we will be building a series of building for each function rather than one large block. There are many reasons;
• Firstly, a single, monolithic block of 350/400m² would be ungainly
• A number of smaller buildings can be integrated into the existing landscape our garden without being too prominent
• It also allows us to keep most of the wonderful mature trees that are on our site
• It will allow the house staff to do their thing without being obtrusive (good for them and good for us)
• It provides privacy to our house guests
• It provides privacy to the our bedroom and bathrooms
• And lastly, it wasn’t just our decision. We spoke to a number of architects and designers and, independently, they all came up with similar layouts for our site.
During my time in Bali I have lived in both “single block houses” and the spread out tropical thing. I greatly prefer the latter.
The only downside (apart from buying a few more bricks & mortar) is that, in going from A to B maybe you get wet or maybe you get hot. So what? As a recent Woody Allen films says “If you don’t like it mate, move to Leeds”.

More Bali Food photos have been posted on the flickr link below. Drool away if you want to but there’s no shortage of world-class restaurants in London. (But a wee bit more pricey than in Bali).
London
Don’t knock it.
I loved living there, it was a great place live and work.
But, after 20 years, I needed a change so bye bye W8 and hello Karangasem.
Highly recommended.

Right! Now I know why most Asians are so thin - it's those tiny little portions in the Novell Cuisine restaurants.
Sorry, after seeing your food shots I dribbled all over my keyboard.
About the building - it will be great to see the finished product(s). How did you find your land? I would probably go trekking through the jungle looking for the view I wanted and then ask around in the nearest village? (if I didn't get eaten by something first) All the advertised land I've seen seems to be on the beach and used to be a rice paddy i.e. not a tree in sight and priced to match the Kenny High Street! You (and anyone else, for that matter) advice would be of interest.
