just finished paper work on lovina property it appears we payed about 1/3 of other similar pproperties. Purchased from a balinese family of British expat who is friend of father.. What do day labourers cost to work projects on your land, can you hire in exchange for rice crop. Thank you.
It depends on the "project".
If you want them to make you a web site, then Bert propably has the answer.
I hired a Balinese builder in Ubud for 50K rupes a day. Javanese workers are less expensive.

Bert is right, "sharecropping" is common in Asia and Bali.
You should really know about this if you intend to start a business here.
Here's some more info for you:
The average per capita annual income for Indonesians is US$900.
An Ubud waitress makes less than 1 million rupes per month (600,000 to 800,000)
Those women who carry baskets of sand on their heads make even less.
Bali is the richest island in Indonesia and their wages are thus higher than Indonesia in general.
Ubud is more expensive than Lovina.
You should check the going price for labor in Lovina before hiring anyone.
Ken
Daily workers 15-30.000
Pemabantu 200-350.000 month
Satpam 300-500 month
(expats pay usually a bit more)
Waitress 200-400.000, some businesses give percentage based income
Remember that a day here is not 8 hours or from 9-5.
Usually 5 hours is called a big day of work, but this also depends on the kind of work
For some jobs bosses give extra food money, or food is included or expected.

Oh I forgot, sometimes the woman take their baby, so daycare is common for some jobs :)
Pay what everybody pays, driver, thats the right thing to do. Before you know you isolate your worker because other villagers will be jeaulous and put a balck magic spell on them....
Driver,
Again Bert is right. Do not knowingly pay double wages. Your workers will think that you are foolishly rich and will take full advantage of you. As Bert mentioned there is the envy problem too. You'll just be inviting trouble with high wages. Bali is not Sweden and your value system does not translate well to this culture.
